Mia brings a unique blend of educational insight, clinical skill, and genuine warmth to her practice at DK Counseling. Holding a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Prescott College and a Master of Education in Counseling and Human Relations from Northern Arizona University, Mia combines rigorous clinical training with broad community-based experience. Prior to transitioning into professional counseling, she spent 17 years working in K–8 elementary education, which cultivated her deep appreciation for social-emotional learning, individualized developmental needs, and family dynamics. Mia recognizes that healing can be difficult when done alone and believes that having a supportive, dedicated advocate makes navigating life's challenges far more empowering. Her therapy room is validating, warm, and inviting, pairing structured clinical care with mindfulness practices and gentle humor so clients feel genuinely seen, accepted, and understood.
Mia specializes in working with children, teens, adults, and families navigating identity affirmation, grief, major life transitions, school-based challenges, and trauma. In her work with youth and students, she draws from her educational background to provide compassionate, age-appropriate support that fosters emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence. As a neurodiversity-affirming clinician, Mia tailors her sessions to honor the innate strengths, perspectives, and lived experiences of each individual. She integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients build practical coping mechanisms and make positive, sustainable changes. Believing that words alone are not always enough to process heavy emotions, Mia also weaves expressive art therapy techniques and motivational interviewing into her sessions, offering creative, collaborative avenues for personal growth and healing.
Outside of the therapy room, Mia stays grounded through the restorative power of creative community and nature. She loves participating in creative group activities like junk journaling and getting lost in a good book. Mia also enjoys walking outside with her husband while he takes photographs, especially around tranquil Arizona spots near running water like Oak Creek. On quieter days, she is just as happy relaxing in a local café, sharing a good drink, and enjoying unhurried conversations with family and close friends.
